The Frugal Runner

In times like this where prices of everything and anything goes up, including  running events, we cant help but become choosy (and wise)  with the events to register for. We make sure  we spend our hard earned  peso (or in my case hard saved money) wisely. But with weekly running events that are equally interesting to test our abilities, What do we do?

Good thing there are running events who manage to come up with very affordable race kits and have a great cause at the same time.

St Peter Life Run

St Peter Life Run will simultaneously start on October 24, 2010 in Tiendesitas (Manila), Cebu Ayala Terraces (Cebu) and Victoria Plaza Mall (Davao).  ABS-CBN Bantay Bata 163 Foundation is the beneficiary for this event that cost P50.00. Say that again? YES! 50.00  pesos! With this amount every participants will have an exquisite singlet that comes with the race kit.

Get updates regarding this event and registration dates and site in Takbo.PH. You can also follow St. Peter Life Run through FACEBOOK.

If you still find it pricey, why not win a FREE race kit instead? Running blogs like Runner’s Runner come up with contests where FREE race kits are given away! Sometimes even the  the running events organizers do have contests such as the Step Out! Avon Walk & Run which gave away a Free race kit and gift packs too.

I am an online contest follower ever since I started social networking. I joined online contest for kids and product promotions where being an insomniac benefited. When the Facebook era came, the infamous MOST LIKES contests arose.

I was one of the 3 lucky followers of Runner’s Runner Facebook who won a Run to Read 3K category race kit. With the help of online friends, relatives and forum acquaintances, I topped the 3 possible winners. I didn’t run my winning race kit but sold it instead. Together with my son, we registered and ran the 500m parent and child tandem category amounting to P500.00, because I won and sold my winning kit it saved us P300.00.  My husband also won himself a free race kit of the same event and ran for free. Total savings = P600.00

Runner’s Runner also came up with a contest for FREE race kit for the recently ended Figaro Run.  I didn’t join to give chance to others =D.

Worried about fare or gasoline cost in going to registration sites? Worry no more Runners Runner can do the job for you. Check out their site and register your next run. Race kits will be delivered right at your doorsteps.

A recently concluded Avon Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer essay contest gave away free Race kits worth 500 pesos. All you have to do is answer Why you want to join and run at Step Out Avon Walk and Run event.

I took a chance and joined despite of lack of first hand experience with breast cancer with the hope my entry could make it to the 10 lucky winners. But I lowered my expectations for most of the entry senders have heroic survival stories battling Breast Cancer.

As the saying goes, It’s not everyday you’re lucky. (You’re luckier! I won a Timex watch that same day, but that’s another story) My entry didn’t get chosen but I don’t take it against them. I know for sure who ever those ten chosen entries deserves the prize to take part in the event. If our budget permits, we will register to this event for our registration surely will go to a really great cause.

This event will take place on October 3, 2010 at the Mall of Asia Grounds. Visit their site for more details.

Sometimes it pays to bum around and browse the internet, Facebooking and checking out some running blogs and forums. Do check out and browse on running events hosts’ sites too for possible contests to join in. Who knows? Maybe a great chance of running free and save up for future and better running events awaits you, especially if you’re on TIPID mode.

Good luck and happy running!
