Breast Cancer Awareness Events

The breasts are very essential part of a woman’s body, most especially for mothers. It serves as the source of nourishment and medicine at the early stages of their children, its what we call Breastfeeding.

Breast Feeding is best for Babies (and You too)

When I became a mother I chose and decided to become a full time mom, where my breasts served as my son’s supplement for his first three years. Yes, I exclusively breastfed my son for 3 straight years and I’m proud and happy to say that its the best decision I made for myself and for my child. I will always be thankful for this opportunity.

But what if these very important part becomes threatened by a disease that could ruin someone and its family’s lives?

Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is cancer originating from breast tissue, most commonly from the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply the ducts with milk. (Wikipedia) It has been a nightmare for both women and men and their family. In fact according to researches, Breast cancer is the number 1 killer among Filipino women. Very saddening, right?

Do we have to experience this in order to become aware? Personally NO.  I’m blessed I don’t have to experience it nor any of my family even friends. And I still pray no one from my loved ones get infected by it in the near future.

Over the years, many awareness campaign against this disease has been spread all over the world, including our country. All forms of media, symposia, concerts and sports events are held to gather Cancer survivors, professionals and even the ordinary people  to participate in spreading awareness to prevent and eliminate the killer.

This year, Breast Cancer Awareness takes its crusade to an activity most people love to do recently, Running. With the hope that with every stride we recognize the heroes who survived and with step we help those who are still in the battle.

Avon STEP OUT! Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye

Thousands of women succumb to breast cancer every year, and it remains to be the number one killer of Filipino women. Anyone can be the victim of the disease – mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, even men, regardless of age, social or economic status. This makes breast cancer and the fight against it, our responsibility.

Avon, the foremost corporate advocate of women’s health, launched the multifaceted awareness and fundraising initiative dubbed Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer (KGBC) here in the country in 2002 to provide care, treatment and support to medically under-served women.

Through KGBC Walk Events and fundraising products, Avon was able to help establish the Breast Care Center at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and successfully fund the treatment of indigents, initiate support groups for sufferers and survivors, and provide much-needed equipment to provincial government hospitals.

For 2010, the company for women calls on everyone to Step Out! Against Breast Cancer. Supporters will not only walk, they will also run to renew their commitment to the cause.

How far should we go to put an end to this deadly disease? As far as it takes. After all, there is no running or walking away from breast cancer, only stepping out as an entire nation to fight it
